When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited when looking at oneself in the mirror. It's a profound moment to acknowledge Allah's creation of our outer form and to actively seek His help in refining our inner character. This practice can foster a healthy self-image, focusing on spiritual and moral development rather than just superficial appearance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and contemplation while looking at your reflection. Focus on the meaning: acknowledging Allah's perfection in creating you and humbly asking Him to beautify your manners and conduct. It's a personal moment of reflection and supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua helps cultivate a balanced perspective on beauty and self-worth. It redirects focus from mere physical appearance to the more enduring quality of good character. By asking Allah to beautify our 'khuluq' (character, manners), we acknowledge that true beauty and peace come from within and are gifts from our Creator. It can lead to greater humility, contentment, and a more positive self-perception grounded in Islamic values.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to say: 'O Allah, You have made my physical form beautiful, so make my character beautiful as well.' (Musnad Ahmad 23949. While this specific wording is graded Hasan, the concept of beautifying character is central to Islamic teachings and supported by numerous authentic narrations concerning the Prophet's ﷺ supplications and his own exemplary character.)
