Finding Solace and Strength: Dua for the Isolated by Chronic Illness

Loneliness & Isolation
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2713

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne, our Lord and Lord of all things, the One who causes the grain and the date-stone to split and sprout, the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Criterion (Quran). I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things You seize by the forelock. O Allah, You are the First, and there is nothing before You; You are the Last, and there is nothing after You; You are the Most显( الظاهر - The Apparent/Exalted), and there is nothing above You; You are the Most Hidden ( الباطن - Al-Batin), and there is nothing nearer than You. Grant us relief from our debt and enrich us from poverty.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa Rabba al-'arshil-'adheem, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay', Faliqal-habbi wan-nawa, wa Munzil at-Tawrati wal-Injeeli wal-Furqan. A'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun bi-nasiyatih. Allahumma Antal-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shay'un, wa Antal-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shay'un, wa Anta Adh-Dhahiru falaysa fawqaka shay'un, wa Antal-Batinu falaysa doonaka shay'un. Iqdi 'anna daynana wa aghnina minal-faqr.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a comprehensive seeking of refuge in Allah and acknowledgment of His divine attributes. By calling upon Allah as the Lord of all creation and the Revealer of divine books, you affirm His power and wisdom. Seeking refuge in His perfect words and acknowledging His unique existence (First, Last, Apparent, Hidden) builds deep reliance. Finally, asking Him to settle our debts and enrich us reflects reliance on His provision, even for our deepest needs like freedom from illness and financial worry, which often compound the suffering of chronic conditions.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach his companions: 'Our Lord and Lord of all things, [and He is] the Knower, the Creator, the Judge, the All-Knowing. [And I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of] myself and from the evil of every tyrant and disobedient one.' He said: 'And he used to teach them (when they woke up): 'Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa Rabba al-'arshil-'adheem, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay', Faliqal-habbi wan-nawa, wa Munzil at-Tawrati wal-Injeeli wal-Furqan.
