Dua for Strength to Embrace Solitude for Self-Discovery and Spiritual Growth

Loneliness & Isolation
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and deeds that are accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This is a powerful dua to recite at any time, but it is particularly beneficial when you feel overwhelmed by the noise of the world and seek a moment of quiet introspection. Recite it when you consciously decide to spend time alone, whether for a few minutes of reflection or a more extended period of solitude. It's ideal at the start of your solitary moments to set the intention for how you wish to utilize that time for spiritual and personal development.

How to Read

Begin with a sincere intention. Raise your hands as you begin the supplication, acknowledging your reliance on Allah. Utter the Arabic words with clarity and focus on their meaning. Feel the plea for beneficial knowledge that guides you, pure sustenance that nourishes you both physically and spiritually, and actions that are accepted by your Creator. After reciting, you can transition into your intended solitary reflection, keeping the essence of this dua in your heart – seeking that which purifies and elevates.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua, taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, seeks three fundamental pillars for a fulfilling life aligned with Allah's pleasure. Beneficial knowledge ( 'ilman nafi'an) is the cornerstone of growth, enabling us to understand ourselves, our faith, and our purpose. Pure provisions (rizqan tayyiban) ensure our well-being is grounded in what is permissible and good. Accepted deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan) are the ultimate goal, indicating our efforts are pleasing to Allah. Embracing solitude, especially with this dua, can amplify these benefits by providing the quiet space needed to truly absorb knowledge, reflect on our blessings, and assess our actions. It helps us detach from distractions, allowing for a more profound connection with Allah and a clearer path to self-discovery.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say when the morning came: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, and sustenance that is pure, and deeds that are accepted.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 925). This hadith highlights the Prophet's ﷺ routine of seeking these three essential elements from Allah at the beginning of each day, setting a profound example for us.
