Dua for Finding Meaning and Purpose When Feeling Alone

Loneliness & Isolation
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 984

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is perfect for the start of your day, especially mornings. When you wake up and feel the weight of loneliness or a lack of direction, taking a moment to make this supplication can powerfully reorient your perspective. It's also excellent to recite after any of your obligatory prayers. Think of it as a daily recommitment to engaging with your life in a way that is pleasing to Allah, even when you feel isolated.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity, raising your hands slightly if possible, and with a heart that genuinely seeks Allah's help. Focus on the meaning of each part: asking for knowledge that benefits you and others, provision that is pure and lawful, and deeds that Allah accepts. The intention here is crucial – you're not just asking for things, but for a transformation in how you perceive and interact with your world, seeking Allah's guidance in finding purpose.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, encompasses three pillars of a fulfilling life. Beneficial knowledge guides us and protects us from misguidance. Good provision sustains us physically and spiritually. Accepted deeds are the essence of our worship and our connection with Allah, giving our actions true weight and meaning. By asking for these, we are essentially asking Allah to imbue our lives with purpose, which can be a profound solace and antidote to feelings of loneliness and aimlessness. It shifts focus from what we lack (company) to what we can gain and contribute (knowledge, good deeds).
