Dua for Finding Belonging in a New City When Feeling Alone

Loneliness & Isolation
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3706

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is executed. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or taught to any one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the reliever of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya h..., 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

It's not just about seeking relief from sadness and anxiety, but about connecting with the ultimate source of peace and guidance – the Quran. By asking Allah to make the Quran the 'spring of the heart,' we invite His divine wisdom and light to illuminate our path, even in the darkest of times. This connection can foster inner peace and a sense of contentment, which are the foundations for feeling at home anywhere.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'The Quran is a solace for the believer, a light for the heart, a means of salvation in this world and the hereafter. Allah (SWT) says: 'And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers...' (Al-Isra 17:82).' The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught a profound dua for seeking relief from distress, which includes the words: 'Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya h..., 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.' (Narrated by Ahmad and others, classified as Hasan).
