Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5902

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ وَقَهْرِ الرِّجَالِ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt and from being overcome by men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, with full conviction in Allah's power to alleviate your distress. Turn towards the Qiblah if possible, and raise your hands in supplication. Remember that Allah listens to every plea, especially from a heart seeking His comfort and protection. Repeat it multiple times during your daily prayers or at any moment you feel the need for solace.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to supplicate to Allah saying: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt and from being overcome by men.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5902). This hadith highlights the Prophet's ﷺ reliance on Allah for protection against a wide spectrum of difficulties that affect a person's well-being and peace of mind.
