A Dua for Healing and Rebuilding Trust After Betrayal

Loneliness & Isolation
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 2904

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree over me is inevitable, and Your judgment over me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or taught to anyone of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, and the light of my breast, and a banisher of my sadness and a reliever of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukkumuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'al-al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

Recite this dua when feeling overwhelmed by the pain of past betrayals. It's particularly helpful during moments of loneliness when the wounds of broken trust feel most raw. Use it in your personal supplications, especially after obligatory prayers, or at any time you feel the need to connect with Allah for solace and strength.

How to Read

Begin with sincere repentance and a commitment to seeking Allah's help. Face the Qiblah, have a clear heart, and focus on the meaning of the words. Raise your hands in supplication. Believe in Allah's power to heal and restore. Repeat this dua regularly, especially during the last third of the night or after Fajr prayer, when supplications are believed to be more readily accepted. Reflect on the names and attributes of Allah mentioned within the dua and let them deepen your trust in His wisdom and mercy.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to a companion facing distress, seeks Allah's help to transform inner turmoil into peace. By asking Allah to make the Qur'an the source of comfort, guidance, and relief from sadness and anxiety, we are turning to the ultimate healer. This process can mend the emotional scars left by betrayal, helping to alleviate feelings of isolation and foster a renewed sense of hope and inner strength. It reorients the heart towards the divine, which is essential for rebuilding trust in oneself and eventually in others.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ heard a man supplicating: 'O Allah, I ask You by virtue of my asking You, and I ask You by virtue of my desire for Your desire, seeking that which is with You. Then he said: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'You have asked Allah using His Most Great Name, which if He is asked by it, He gives, and if He is asked to grant (something) by it, He grants.' Then he mentioned a man who was walking with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when he was afflicted with pain. The man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my pain has increased.' The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Say: O Allah, by the truth of the Throne of Mercy, and by Your well-trodden path, and by Your Names, I ask You to grant me the relief from my pain.' Then he said: 'Then he said: Then the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Then he said to him: Say: O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree over me is inevitable, and Your judgment over me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or taught to anyone of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, and the light of my breast, and a banisher of my sadness and a reliever of my anxiety.' The man went and recited these words and Allah removed his affliction. Then he came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and informed him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'By Allah, this is not permissible for anyone to recite and ask Allah by it except that He will accept it from him.'
