In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask of You Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed devil.
Bismillahi was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma 'ismni minash-shaytanir-rajim.
When to Read
This beautiful supplication is recited specifically when exiting the masjid. It's a transition, moving from the sacred space of worship back into the world. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to begin with our right foot when entering, so it's understood from the Sunnah that we should exit with our left foot first.
How to Read
As you prepare to leave the masjid, remember to place your left foot out first. As you do so, pause for a moment and recite this dua. Begin by invoking Allah's name and sending peace and blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. Then, directly ask Allah for His immense bounty. Finally, seek His protection from the whisperings and temptations of Shaytan as you re-enter daily life. The act of stepping out with the left foot is a subtle but consistent practice of the Prophet ﷺ, signifying a mindful transition.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates several important intentions: acknowledging Allah's name and sending blessings on the Prophet ﷺ shows respect and devotion. Asking for Allah's bounty is a reminder that all good comes from Him, even after completing acts of worship. Most importantly, seeking protection from the accursed devil is vital as we leave the spiritual sanctuary of the masjid and re-enter a world filled with distractions and temptations. It's a prayer for continued guidance and protection in our worldly affairs.

Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): 'I shall tell you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left the mosque. He first made his right hand go out (i.e. put his right foot forward) and then his left foot.' In another narration: 'When one of you enters his mosque, he should greet the Prophet ﷺ and send blessings upon him, and say: 'O Allah, open to me the gates of Your Mercy.' And when he goes out, he should say: 'O Allah, I ask of You Your bounty.' *Sunan Ibn Majah 771 (graded Hasan by Al-Albani)* *Note: The first part of the hadith about exiting with the right foot first is found in Sahih al-Bukhari 471 and Sahih Muslim 2098 as part of the etiquette of entering and exiting the Masjid. The specific dua for exiting is mentioned in the Hasan narrations of Sunan Abi Dawud and Sunan Ibn Majah.*
