Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Spreading Goodness and Seeking Protection

Leaving Masjid
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1551

O Allah, I ask of Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Satan. O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best way.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik, Allahumma 'asimli minash-shaytanir-rajim, Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited as you are about to leave the masjid, after fulfilling your prayer or other worship. It marks the transition from a state of spiritual retreat and connection within the sacred space to re-engaging with the world outside. It's a moment to ask Allah for continued blessings and protection as you step back into your daily life, carrying the barakah (blessing) of the masjid with you.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely after your prayer, as you prepare to exit the masjid. It’s generally recited when stepping out with your left foot first, following the sunnah for entering and exiting places (though specific foot for exiting the masjid is debated, the general principle is a good guide). Focus on the meaning of each phrase: seeking Allah’s grace, protection from evil influences, and the strength to live a life that constantly remembers, thanks, and beautifully worships Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for spiritual and worldly well-being. By asking for Allah's bounty ('fadlik'), you acknowledge that all good comes from Him. Seeking protection from Satan (''asimli minash-shaytanir-rajim') is vital as we re-enter a world filled with temptations. The final part, asking for help in remembering, thanking, and worshipping Allah in the best way ('a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik'), is a profound request for a life lived in constant devotion and gratitude. It essentially asks for the ability to carry the spirit of the masjid – closeness to Allah – into every aspect of your life, thus spreading goodness through your actions and intentions.

Source & Authentication

When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) left the mosque, he would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik, Allahumma 'asimli minash-shaytanir-rajim, Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik.' (O Allah, I ask of Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Satan. O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best way.)
