Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Seeking Protection from Misfortune

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1380

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This dua is specifically recommended to be recited when leaving the Masjid. It's a beautiful way to transition from a state of worship and closeness to Allah back into the world, asking for His continued blessings and protection as you step out.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity after you have finished your prayers and remembrance in the Masjid, just as you are about to exit the building. It’s often recommended to exit with your right foot first, mirroring the entry with the left, as a sign of respecting the sacred space. The core intention is seeking Allah's grace and provision.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific wording is often linked to seeking *fadl* (bounty/grace), the act of seeking Allah's protection and guidance upon leaving the Masjid is a profound practice. It signifies a continuous connection with Allah, acknowledging that His blessings are needed in all aspects of life, including navigating the world outside the Masjid. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us numerous duas for various occasions, and this one is a gentle reminder that our reliance on Allah should not cease once we leave a place of worship. It's about carrying that spiritual momentum with us, asking Allah to make our steps secure and our journey protected from any harm or misfortune.

Source & Authentication

Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered the mosque, he would invoke Allah with the following words: "Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik" (O Allah, open to me the doors of Your mercy). And when he left, he would invoke Allah with the following words: "Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik" (O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty).
