Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Seeking Allah's Strength to Fulfill Promises

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1341

In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask of Your grace. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Satan, and protect me from the evil of this day, and protect me from the evil of what is in it. O Allah, I ask You for Your guidance, piety, chastity, and richness (contentment).

Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma 'ismni minash-shaytanir-rajeem, wa a'idhni min sharri hadhal-yawm, wa a'idhni min sharri ma fihi. Allahumma inni as'aluka hudaka wa tuqaka wa 'afafaka wa ghinak.

When to Read

This dua is recited immediately after completing your prayer inside the masjid, as you prepare to leave the house of Allah and re-enter the world. It's a powerful moment to seek Allah's continued guidance and protection as you step back into daily life, carrying the blessings of your worship.

How to Read

Recite this dua after finishing your obligatory or voluntary prayers in the masjid, as you are about to stand up and exit. Begin with 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah), followed by acknowledging the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Then, make the supplication, asking Allah for His abundant grace, protection from Satan's whispers, and the specific requests for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment. It's a moment of quiet reflection and earnest asking before rejoining the worldly affairs.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is profound because it acknowledges our dependence on Allah as we leave His house. We ask for His grace ('fadlik') to sustain us, His protection ('ismni' and 'a'idhni') from the pervasive influence of Satan and the potential evils of the day, and the essential qualities for a righteous life: guidance ('hudak'), piety ('tuaqa'), chastity ('afafak'), and contentment ('ghinak'). This supplication helps us carry the sanctity of the masjid into our actions and decisions outside, strengthening our resolve to fulfill the promises we make to Allah in our worship and our lives.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) left the mosque, he would say: 'Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma 'ismni minash-shaytanir-rajeem, wa a'idhni min sharri hadhal-yawm, wa a'idhni min sharri ma fihi. Allahumma inni as'aluka hudaka wa tuqaka wa 'afafaka wa ghinak.' (Sahih Muslim 1341).
