Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 714

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recommended to be recited immediately after leaving the Masjid. It's a moment where we are transitioning from a state of worship and remembrance of Allah to engaging with the world outside. This dua is particularly poignant as it's taught to be recited when leaving the Masjid, asking Allah for His boundless grace as we step back into our daily lives, which may expose us to various unseen challenges, including the envy or ill will from the 'evil eye' which can be a real source of harm.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity and a humble heart, raising your hands slightly if possible, acknowledging that all provision and protection comes solely from Allah. The focus is on asking Allah for His continuous grace and blessings, recognizing that His bounty is what will shield us from any harm, seen or unseen, as we leave His house.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, while seemingly simple, carries profound meaning. When we ask Allah for His bounty after leaving His house of worship, we are essentially seeking His continued favor and protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this specific dua when leaving the Masjid, and it encompasses seeking Allah's grace which, by extension, protects us from all forms of harm, including the effects of the evil eye. The Prophet ﷺ also said: 'The evil eye is real, and a man may be thrown from a mountain and it will be a cause for him, and if one of you performs ghusl (for the purpose of removing the effect of the evil eye), he will not be harmed.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5738). Therefore, seeking Allah's bounty after leaving the Masjid is a way to invoke His supreme protection against such potential harms.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When one of you goes to the Masjid, let him say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik' (O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty). And when he leaves, let him say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik' (O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty).' (Sahih Muslim 714). In another narration, it is mentioned: 'When you enter the Masjid, enter with Allah's name, and when you leave, leave with Allah's name. O Allah, grant me of Your grace.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 465, graded Sahih by Al-Albani). The phrase 'min fadlik' directly translates to 'from Your bounty' or 'from Your grace,' and Allah's grace is the ultimate shield.
