اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.
Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik
When to Read
This beautiful supplication is recited upon leaving the Masjid. After completing your prayers and perhaps engaging in dhikr, as you prepare to step out, turn to Allah and ask Him to bestow His favor upon you for the rest of your day or journey. It's a way of carrying the barakah (blessings) of the Masjid with you.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity as you are exiting the Masjid. It is generally recommended to exit with your left foot first, similar to how one enters with the right, though the primary focus is the dua itself. Speak the words clearly, reflecting on their meaning.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a profound request for Allah's generosity. By asking 'from Your bounty,' we acknowledge that all good things come from Him. It is a recognition of our dependence on Allah and a proactive step to seek His blessings in whatever we do after leaving His house. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to remind us that even after fulfilling our obligations in the Masjid, our need for Allah's guidance and provision continues throughout our lives. It’s about seeking opportunities for good deeds and success in this world and the next, all stemming from Allah's endless grace.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "When one of you intends to leave the Masjid, let him say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.' (O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.)" Another narration states: Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught them to say, when leaving the Masjid: 'Allahumma aj'al fi qalbi nooran, wa fi basari nooran, wa fi sam'i nooran, wa 'an yameeni nooran, wa 'an yasaari nooran, wa min amami nooran, wa min khalfi nooran, wa min fawqi nooran, wa min tahli nooran. Allahumma a'thim li nooran. (O Allah, place in my heart light, and in my sight light, and in my hearing light, and on my right light, and on my left light, and before me light, and behind me light, and above me light, and beneath me light. O Allah, grant me immense light.)' – Sahih Muslim 763. While this second hadith focuses on seeking light, the first one, 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik,' is specifically linked to the act of leaving the Masjid and seeking Allah's bounty, which encompasses all good deeds and provision.
