Leaving Masjid
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 771

In the name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask of Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Satan.

Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma 'ismni minash-shaytanir-rajim.

When to Read

This dua is recited when leaving the Masjid (mosque). It's a moment to seek Allah's protection and blessings as you depart from a place of worship, acknowledging that even in this sacred space, we can inadvertently fall short or be tempted by Shaytan.

How to Read

Recite this dua after finishing your prayer and before stepping out of the Masjid. It's recommended to begin with the Basmala (Bismillah) and to invoke peace and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The dua itself involves acknowledging Allah's bounty and seeking His protection from the evil whispers and influence of Shaytan.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates seeking both divine provision (Allah's bounty) and protection from spiritual harm (Shaytan). Leaving the Masjid, one may feel a sense of spiritual high, but this dua reminds us to remain vigilant and to seek Allah's continuous support as we re-enter the world outside. It's a humble recognition of our dependence on Allah for both worldly and spiritual well-being.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When one of you exits his house, he says: 'Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (In the name of Allah, I rely upon Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah). Then it will be said to him: 'You have been sufficed and protected, and the devil will stay away from you.' And when one of you enters his house, he says: 'Bismillah, wa billah' (In the name of Allah, and by Allah). And when he leaves, he says: 'Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma 'ismni minash-shaytanir-rajim.' (In the name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask of Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Satan)." (Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 7, Hadith 771. The grading of this hadith is Hasan.)
