Leaving Masjid
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 508

In the name of Allah, and may the peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Satan.

Bismillahi, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma a'idhni minash-Shaytanir-rajeem.

When to Read

This dua is recited immediately after leaving the masjid, right before stepping outside. It's a moment of transition, moving from the sacred space of worship back into our daily lives. As we depart, we acknowledge that our ibadah (worship) within the masjid, while beneficial, isn't complete. This dua is a humble recognition that we still need Allah's grace for our worldly needs and protection from spiritual harm as we re-enter the world.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a clear intention. Begin by remembering Allah's name and sending peace upon the Prophet ﷺ. Acknowledge that all blessings and provision come from Allah alone. The mention of seeking refuge from Satan is crucial, as the world outside the masjid is where many temptations and distractions lie. It’s about carrying the barakah (blessings) of the masjid with you, while asking for Allah’s protection and provision.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful dua encompasses several profound benefits. Firstly, it demonstrates our reliance on Allah for our sustenance and worldly needs, acknowledging that His bounty is what we truly seek. Secondly, it asks for protection from the devil, who actively seeks to misguide us, especially when we are leaving a place of remembrance. It's a proactive step to shield ourselves from whispers and temptations that can lead us astray from our commitments, including our responsibilities to our families, work, and community. By asking for Allah's grace, we are essentially seeking His help to remain steadfast and fulfill those duties in a way that pleases Him.

Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he left the mosque, would say: 'Bismillahi, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma a'idhni minash-Shaytanir-rajeem.' (In the name of Allah, and may the peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Satan.)
