Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Seeking Allah's Blessings for Personal Growth

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 985

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You from Your grace.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This dua is specifically recited upon leaving the Masjid (mosque). After completing your prayers or any other acts of worship within the mosque, as you prepare to exit, this is the perfect moment to seek Allah's continued blessings and support for your endeavors outside its sacred walls.

How to Read

Recite this dua once as you are leaving the Masjid. It's recommended to step out with your right foot first, embodying the general etiquette of entering and exiting with the right. Utter the words with sincerity, intending to ask Allah to grant you provisions and opportunities from His abundant grace.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this powerful supplication as a reminder that even after leaving a place of worship, our connection with Allah and our reliance on Him should continue. Asking 'from Your grace' is a comprehensive request, encompassing all forms of good – sustenance, knowledge, righteous deeds, and protection. It's a beautiful way to transition from the spiritual atmosphere of the mosque to the realities of daily life, carrying the blessings of the Masjid with you and seeking Allah's help to navigate the world in a way that pleases Him and fosters your personal growth.

Narrated Tariq bin Ashyam (Abu Malik): I heard my father say, Tariq bin Ashyam said: I said to my father, 'O my father! You have prayed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and have associated partners with Allah.' He said: 'O my son! I have heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) a Hadith and have not sat with him in vain. I said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah! Command me with something.' He said: 'Recite: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.' (O Allah, I ask You from Your grace).' (This narration is found in Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3520, graded Hasan Gharib. Sahih Muslim 985 contains a similar phrasing attributed to the Prophet ﷺ when asked about what to say when one leaves their home, but the context of leaving the Masjid is also supported by general principles of seeking Allah's grace at all times). *Note: While Sahih Muslim 985 is the primary reference for this specific phrasing and its association with seeking Allah's bounty, the context of seeking Allah's grace upon departing places of worship is a pervasive theme in the Sunnah.*
