Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Invoking Allah to Grant Us the Best of Both Worlds

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ.

O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.

When to Read

This beautiful and concise dua is recited as you are about to leave the Masjid, after completing your prayer or visit. It's a moment of transition, moving from the sacred space of worship back into the world, and this dua perfectly bridges that gap.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely as you prepare to exit the Masjid. It's traditionally said when taking the first step with your left foot to leave. Focus on the meaning: you've just connected with Allah (SWT) in His house, and now you're asking Him to bless your endeavors outside, seeking His grace and provision. It's a gentle reminder that every blessing, in this life and the next, comes from Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound request for both worldly and otherworldly blessings. By asking for Allah's 'fadl' (bounty, grace, generosity), we are not just asking for material provision, but also for His pleasure, guidance, and acceptance in our deeds. It acknowledges that true success encompasses spiritual well-being and worldly comfort, all stemming from Allah's infinite grace. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this simple yet comprehensive supplication, showing us how to integrate seeking Allah's blessings into our daily routines.

Narrated Tariq bin Ashyam (who was also called Ibn Mu'allaq): I said to Ibn 'Umar, 'O Abu 'Abdur-Rahman! What did you hear from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about supplication?' He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Let one of you, when he finishes from the prayer, say: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik." (O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty). And he said: 'The supplication is beneficial for the worldly troubles and the affairs of the Hereafter.'
