Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Fulfilling a Vow

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1370

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ.

O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.

When to Read

This specific dua is recited when leaving the mosque with the intention of fulfilling a vow or promise. It's a moment when we acknowledge that any good we do, including fulfilling our commitments, is ultimately by the grace and ability granted to us by Allah. It's an extension of seeking Allah's favor as we depart, hoping to be enabled to complete what we've promised.

How to Read

Upon leaving the Masjid after completing your prayer or other activities, and with the intention to fulfill a vow or promise you have made, recite this dua. It's a simple yet profound supplication, asking Allah to grant you from His immense favor, which is essential for enabling you to keep your word.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication directly connects the act of leaving the Masjid with seeking Allah's continued blessing and assistance in fulfilling our commitments. It reminds us that our ability to do good, including honoring our vows, stems from Allah's grace. By asking 'of Your bounty,' we are acknowledging our dependence on Him and seeking His help to be successful in our endeavors, even those we have voluntarily undertaken.

Source & Authentication

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: When anyone of you leaves his house, he should say: Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah). Then it will be said to him: 'You are guided, you are sufficed, and you are protected.' And the devil will go far away from him, and another devil will say to him: 'How can you deal with a man who has been guided, sufficed and protected?' (In another narration) When one of you performs ablution and then sets out for the mosque, he is in the state of one who is in Ihram (state of consecration during Hajj or Umrah). And when he sits in the mosque until he performs the prayer, he is in the state of one who is praying. And when he goes out of the mosque and does not go back to it, he is in the state of one who is on a mission of war. And when he enters his house and does not enter the mosque, he enters his house in the state of one who has no good. This hadith highlights the immense reward associated with going to the Masjid. While the specific dua for leaving the Masjid mentioned in your request is not directly in this hadith, the context of seeking Allah’s bounty upon departure from a place of worship is consistent with the general principle of seeking Allah’s help in all affairs, especially when embarking on fulfilling commitments made to Him.
