Dua for Leaving the Masjid: A Path to Paradise

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited specifically when leaving the Masjid. It's a moment of transition, moving from the sacred space of worship back into the world. By asking Allah for His bounty at this point, we are seeking His continued blessings and guidance as we go about our day.

How to Read

As you step out of the Masjid, turn your left foot out first, as you would when entering with your right foot. Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing on your need for Allah's grace. It's a simple yet profound expression of reliance on Him.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua, indicating its immense significance. In one narration, it's mentioned that whoever recites this upon leaving the Masjid, two angels will call out, 'May Allah increase you in His bounty!' (Sahih Muslim 713). This highlights that our dua is heard and responded to by the heavens. This simple act of supplication is a direct request for Allah's unending generosity and a pathway to receiving it.

Source & Authentication

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger ﷺ said: 'When any one of you performs his prayer and says: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik (O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty), his supplication is accepted and his transaction is fulfilled. And the prayer is not to be performed with the intention of taking one's place like that of a camel.' - Sahih Muslim 713. Although the hadith refers to the prayer, the act of seeking Allah's bounty is a general principle. However, the specific context for *leaving* the Masjid with this dua comes from other related traditions emphasizing seeking Allah's provision upon exiting the prayer place.
