Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSunan at-Tirmidhi 3426

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might or power except with Allah.

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

When to Read

Recite this powerful dua every time you step out of your home, regardless of your destination. It's a beautiful way to begin your day or any outing. This dua is especially pertinent when you are embarking on a task of significance, such as going to fulfill a vow (nazr), visiting a sick person, attending to an important need, or seeking knowledge. Make it a conscious practice, just as you cross the threshold of your home.

How to Read

Say this dua audibly or silently, with sincerity and full conviction in your heart. Take a moment to truly reflect on its profound meaning: you are declaring that you place your trust entirely in Allah, acknowledging that all strength and power belong to Him alone. This isn't merely reciting words; it's an act of handing over your affairs to the Creator before facing the world outside, trusting in His wisdom and might.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the immense benefit of this dua. He ﷺ said: 'Whoever says (when he leaves his house): بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ, it is said to him: 'You have been guided, you have been sufficed, and you have been protected.' And the Shaitan turns away from him.' (Sunan at-Tirmidhi 3426). This comprehensive protection means Allah grants you guidance in your actions, sufficiency in all your needs, and protection from harm and evil influences, including the whispers of Shaitan. For anyone leaving to fulfill a righteous vow, this protection ensures your intention remains pure, your steps are firm, and your task is facilitated by divine aid against all obstacles.
