Dua for Strength and Guidance When Facing Betrayal and Leaving Home

Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 3003

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your favors, the change of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief. I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess. I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-hammi wal-hazan, wa a'udhu bika min al-'ajzi wal-kasal, wa a'udhu bika min al-jubni wal-buhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is particularly potent when you are facing a situation where you feel betrayed or let down by people close to you, leading to the difficult decision of leaving your home or current environment. Recite it when you feel overwhelmed by grief, anxiety, or the injustice of the situation, especially as you prepare to make significant changes in your life.

How to Read

This is a profound supplication that embodies seeking Allah's protection from numerous evils. It's best recited after your obligatory prayers (Salat), or at any time you feel the need for sincere recourse to Allah. Face the Qiblah if possible, raise your hands in supplication, and recite with a humble and earnest heart, truly believing in Allah's power to protect and guide you. Understand the meaning of each phrase as you utter it.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful shield against various forms of hardship. Seeking refuge in Allah from the 'overpowering of men' (qahrir-rijal) directly addresses situations of betrayal, oppression, or being wronged by others. It also provides strength and solace by asking for protection from emotional distress (worry and grief) and weakness (helplessness and laziness), which are often amplified during times of betrayal and upheaval. By seeking refuge from debt and stinginess, it also calls for ease in one's worldly affairs, which can be a significant concern when leaving home.
