Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5095

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ.

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

When to Read

This powerful dua should be recited as you step out of your home, on your way to face a demanding examination. It's a declaration of reliance on Allah (SWT) as you embark on a task that requires mental fortitude and a clear mind. Imagine yourself at the doorstep, keys in hand, taking a deep breath, and uttering these words with sincerity.

How to Read

Recite this dua with full conviction, understanding that true strength and ability come only from Allah. It's not just a set of words, but a heartfelt commitment to trust in His plan and His power. Ensure you pronounce each word clearly and with contemplation.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates complete reliance on Allah (SWT). When you say this, you are acknowledging that no matter how much you prepare, your success ultimately rests with Him. It brings peace of mind, reduces anxiety, and imbues you with a sense of divine support. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised that when this is said, it is said to him: 'You have been guided, you have been sufficed, and you have been protected.' This means Allah will provide for your needs, guide you, and protect you from any harm.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "When a person goes out of his house and says: 'Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.' (In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah), it will be said to him: 'You have been guided, you have been sufficed, and you have been protected.' So the devil will keep away from him. Another devil will say to him: 'How can you deal with a man who has been guided, sufficed, and protected?'
