بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ.
In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.
Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.
When to Read
This powerful dua is recited when you step out of your home, especially when heading towards a situation that feels like a significant personal trial, be it a challenging meeting, a difficult conversation, facing a fear, or any situation where you feel you need Allah's support and guidance. It's a declaration of trust as you leave your sanctuary.
How to Read
Recite this once, clearly and with sincere intention, as you place your foot outside your door. It’s beneficial to visualize Allah’s protection and strength surrounding you as you utter these words. The beauty of this dua lies in its simple yet profound acknowledgment of our dependence on Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a shield against all harm. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised that whoever recites this upon leaving their home will be told: 'You are guided, you are defended, and you are protected.' The shaytan (devil) will retreat from them, saying, 'How can you get to a man whom he (Allah) has guided, who is defended and protected by Allah?' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5095, graded Sahih by some scholars like Al-Albani). It transforms a potentially daunting departure into an act of faith and reliance, ensuring you face trials with Allah's assurance.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Anas that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'When a man goes out of his house and says: Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah), it will be said to him: “You have been sufficed (from harm), defended and guided.” So the devil will say to him: “How can you get to a man whom he (Allah) has guided, defended and sufficed?”'
