Dua for Leaving Home with the Intention to Build Bridges

Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5095

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ.

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

When to Read

This dua is recited when you leave your home, stepping out with a conscious intention to connect with others, foster understanding, and strengthen relationships within the community and beyond. It's about turning an ordinary departure into an act of spiritual significance, seeking Allah's help in being a force for good and unity wherever you go.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincere intention as you physically step out of your doorway. Say it clearly, reflecting on the meaning of trusting Allah and acknowledging His power. It's a beautiful reminder that our outward journeys are guided and protected by Him, and that our actions in building connections are done with His strength, not our own.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful dua, when recited upon leaving home, offers profound protection and guidance. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that reciting it means you will be told: 'You are guided, you are defended, and you are protected.' Satan will then leave you, and another devil will say: 'How can you get to a man whom he has been guided, is defended and is protected?' This spiritual shield empowers you to face the world with confidence, knowing Allah is your ultimate guardian. When this guardian is with you, your interactions, even those aimed at building bridges, are imbued with barakah and protection from negative influences, allowing your efforts to foster connection and understanding to flourish.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Anas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'When a man leaves his house and says: Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. It will be said to him: 'You have been sufficed, defended and guided.' (As for the devil,) he will become distant from him and another devil will say to him: 'What can you do to a man who has been sufficed, defended and guided?'
