Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud, Sunan An-Nasa'i, Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3275 (Tirmidhi)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah, and there is no power nor strength except with Allah.

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

When to Read

This powerful supplication is specifically recommended to be recited upon leaving one's home. It is particularly poignant when you are stepping out to face a difficult situation, such as a false accusation, where you feel vulnerable and in need of divine protection and support.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm reliance on Allah (SWT). As you utter these words, visualize yourself entrusting your affairs and protection to the Almighty. Understand that 'leaving home' in this context applies not just to physical departure, but also to any endeavor you embark on from your dwelling place, especially one fraught with challenge. It's the affirmation of your faith and dependence on Allah before you face the world.

Virtues & Benefits

This is a comprehensive dua that encapsulates total reliance on Allah (SWT). When recited, it is said that one is guided, protected, and suffices their own needs. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When a person says: Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. It will be said to him: You have been sufficed, protected and guided.' This covers all aspects of need, especially when facing adversity like false accusations, where guidance and protection are paramount.

Source & Authentication

Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When a person leaves his house and says: Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. It will be said to him: You have been sufficed, protected and guided. The Shaytan will distance himself from him.' And another version says: 'One of the devils will say to him: How can you get to the one whom you have sufficed, protected and guided?'
