Leaving Home
Hasan HadithSunan Abu Dawood 5095

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ.

In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

When to Read

This is the essential dua to recite when stepping out of your home with the intention to seek financial solutions, especially after facing a significant loss. Whether it's a job loss, a business failure, or any hardship that has depleted your resources, reciting this as you leave your sanctuary can set the right intention and seek divine assistance for your journey. It's about acknowledging that while you are taking practical steps, ultimate success and strength come from Allah.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely as you are about to leave your home. Ideally, say it as your foot crosses the threshold, or just before you close the door behind you. Ensure your heart is connected to the meaning – that you are placing your trust in Allah's plan and acknowledging His power to facilitate your affairs, while recognizing your own limitations. It’s a declaration of reliance, a humble plea for help as you embark on a challenging path.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua is not just a string of words; it's a spiritual toolkit. When recited with true reliance on Allah, it acts as a shield and a guide. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ informed us of its profound impact: 'When a servant says this, it is said to him: "You have been guided, defended, and made independent of need."' This means Allah Himself assigns angels to guide your steps, protect you from harm and misfortune, and grant you contentment and sufficiency, no matter the external circumstances. It transforms a potentially daunting departure into an act of worship, infusing it with blessings and divine support.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When a person leaves his house and says: Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. (In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah.) It will be said to him: Kufiya and Huffa and Wukiya. (Meaning: You have been sufficed, you have been defended, and you have been protected.)'
