Dua for Leaving Home for a Temporary Separation from Family

Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5095

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ.

In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

When to Read

This dua is recited just as you are stepping out of your home, whether for a short trip or a longer absence, especially when leaving loved ones behind due to work, study, or any unavoidable circumstance.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincere intention and complete reliance on Allah. Say it as you place your foot on the threshold or are about to leave your dwelling. It’s a declaration of faith and a request for Allah's protection and guidance during your journey and absence from home.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua provides immense protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated that when one says this, it is said to them: 'You have been guided, you have been sufficed, and you have been protected.' The Shaytan then keeps away from them. This means Allah sends angels to guide and protect you, and He makes you independent of need, ensuring your well-being during your separation.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin Al-‘as (may Allah be pleased with them) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When a person says when he leaves his house: Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. It will be said to him: It is sufficient for you; you have been guided, and you have been protected. And the devil will move away from him.'
