Leaving Home
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 134

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

When to Read

This powerful supplication is recommended to be recited when leaving one's home for any significant journey, including embarking on a peacekeeping mission. It's a declaration of reliance on Allah as you step out into the unknown, seeking His protection and guidance. Recite it as you physically step out of your door, before you begin your travel.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a clear intention of seeking Allah's help and protection. Understand the meaning behind each word: acknowledging Allah's name as you begin, declaring your complete trust in Him, and recognizing that all strength and ability comes solely from Him. This mindset is crucial for truly benefiting from the dua.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated that when a person recites this dua upon leaving their home, it is said to them: 'You are guided, defended, and protected.' The devil retreats from them, and another narration mentions that they are saved from stumbling. This means Allah sends angels to guide and protect you, and He shields you from harm, both spiritual and physical. For someone going on a mission of peace, this protection and guidance are profoundly important.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When a person leaves his house saying: Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah), it is said to him: 'You have been sufficed and protected.' And Satan says to him: 'How can you get to a servant whom Allah has sufficed and guided?'
