بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. And there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited when you are about to leave your home, especially when embarking on a significant journey, like one undertaken for penance and purification. Think of it as setting your intention and placing your spiritual well-being under Allah’s care before you even step out the door. Whether it's a physical journey to seek knowledge, a pilgrimage, or even a more metaphorical journey of self-improvement, this is the perfect invocation.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity and a heart full of reliance on Allah (SWT). As you step out, perhaps placing your right foot forward, let the words flow naturally, embodying their meaning: acknowledging Allah's name, entrusting your journey to Him, and recognizing that all strength and capability come only from Him. It’s a moment to pause, connect, and feel that divine protection surrounding you.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised immense protection and guidance for anyone who recites this dua upon leaving their home. It is reported that when he ﷺ would say this, it would be said to him: 'You are guided, defended, and freed from error.' This protection is not just physical; it extends to safeguarding your spiritual journey, warding off the whispers of Shaytan, and ensuring your steps are guided towards what is good and pure. It’s a powerful way to start any endeavor, transforming a simple departure into an act of worship.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Anas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'When a man goes out of his house and says: 'Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah), it will be said to him: 'You have been sufficed, protected, and guided.' So, the devil turns away from him, and another devil says to him: 'How can you deal with a man who has been sufficed, protected, and guided?' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5095)
