Dua for Leaving Home Amidst Family Conflict

Leaving Home
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4701

In the name of Allah, I rely on Allah. There is no might nor power except with Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from straying or being led astray, from stumbling or causing others to stumble, from wronging or being wronged, and from acting foolishly or being treated foolishly.

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika an adilla aw udalla, aw azilla aw uzalla, aw azlima aw uzlama, aw ajhala aw yujhala 'alayya.

When to Read

Recite this dua specifically when you are stepping out of your home with the intention of addressing a difficult family conflict. This applies whether you are going to the home of a relative, a mediator's place, or anywhere else to try and resolve the issue. The intention is to seek Allah's protection and guidance as you embark on this sensitive journey.

How to Read

Recite this supplication sincerely before leaving your home. Make sure you are in a state of Wudu (ablution) if possible. Utter the words clearly, with focus and contemplation on their meaning. Truly place your trust in Allah (Tawakkul) as you say it, understanding that all strength and guidance come from Him. The phrase 'la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (there is no might nor power except with Allah) is a powerful affirmation of our dependence on the Creator, especially when facing challenges.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is comprehensive, seeking refuge from multiple forms of error and harm: spiritual misguidance, personal mistakes that affect oneself or others, injustice (both inflicted and committed), and ignorance that leads to foolish actions or treatment. When facing a family conflict, the stakes are high, and these forms of harm are very real possibilities. Reciting this dua invokes Allah's protection over you during your journey and your interaction, asking Him to safeguard your actions, your words, and your intentions, thus paving the way for a more constructive resolution.

Source & Authentication

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, from Sulayman ibn Yasir, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When you go out of your house, say: 'Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.' It will be said to you: 'You have been guided, defended, and your needs have been sufficed.' Shaytan will be kept away from you, and another shaytan will say to another: 'How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended, and sufficed?'
