Leaving Home
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5095

بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللهِ.

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited before stepping out of your home to start a new chapter in your career. Whether it's your first day at a new job, starting a new business venture, or even moving to a new city for work, this supplication is perfect for seeking Allah's guidance and protection as you embark on this significant journey.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with conviction as you prepare to leave your home. It's best said just as you are about to step outside or even while walking out the door. Remember to internalize the meaning: acknowledging Allah's name, entrusting your affairs to Him, and recognizing that all strength and ability come from Him alone. This isn't just a verbal act; it's a declaration of faith and reliance.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua upon leaving home is a profound act of *tawakkul* (trust in Allah). It brings immense blessings by acknowledging Allah's sovereignty over all matters. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that whoever says this is told: 'You are guided, defended, and freed from all evil. Satan will keep away from you.' This means you are under Allah's special care, protected from harm, and guided towards your goals. For a new career path, this protection and guidance are invaluable.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "If anyone says when he leaves his house: 'Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah), it will be said to him: 'You are guided, defended, and freed from all evil.' Then Satan will keep away from him and another Satan will say to him: 'How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended and freed?'"
