اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي وَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْفَعُنِي وَزِدْنِي عِلْمًا
O Allah, benefit me with what You have taught me, and teach me what benefits me, and increase me in knowledge.
Allahumma-nfa'ni bima 'allamtani, wa 'allimni ma yanfa'uni, wa zidni 'ilma
When to Read
Recite this dua when you begin studying sacred texts, especially when encountering passages that seem complex, metaphorical, or allegorical. It's also beneficial during moments of reflection after studying, or before seeking further understanding from scholars.
How to Read
Recite with sincere intention and focus on the meaning of the words. Raise your hands in supplication if possible, as is the general etiquette for dua. Reflect on your own limitations and the vastness of Allah's knowledge, seeking His guidance to comprehend His word.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication directly asks Allah to make the knowledge we acquire beneficial, to teach us what is truly useful, and to increase our understanding. This is crucial for navigating the nuanced and sometimes metaphorical language found in the Quran and Sunnah, allowing for deeper insight and application of Islamic teachings.
