O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not fear You, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a prayer that is not answered.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min du'ain la yusma'.
When to Read
This is a powerful supplication that can be recited at any time, but it is especially fitting after prayers (salah), during the night (qiyam al-layl), or during times of personal reflection. It's particularly relevant when embarking on a new learning endeavor, starting a project, or feeling a disconnect between one's knowledge and actions.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and heartfelt intention. Understand the meaning of each phrase and connect with Allah, asking for His protection. It's a comprehensive plea for spiritual and practical well-being, encompassing the mind, heart, and actions. Try to make it a regular part of your supplications, perhaps after your obligatory prayers.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking refuge from 'knowledge that does not benefit' is crucial. True benefit from knowledge comes when it leads to righteous action, draws us closer to Allah, and improves our character. Useless knowledge, in contrast, can be a source of pride without substance, leading to argumentation and a lack of practical application in life. This dua also encompasses seeking protection from a heart lacking awe and reverence for Allah, a soul driven by insatiable desires, and supplications that might be hindered from acceptance. It's a holistic request for inner peace and outward productivity in pleasing Allah.
