QuranQuran 3:191

رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَٰذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Our Lord, You did not create this [creation] in vain; exalted are You! Then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Rabbana ma khalaqta hadha batilan subhanaka faqina 'adhaban-nar

When to Read

This beautiful dua is perfect for reciting when you find yourself contemplating the vastness and intricate details of the universe – whether you're stargazing on a clear night, observing the complex design of a flower, or marveling at the power of the ocean. It’s particularly fitting after experiencing something awe-inspiring in nature, or when seeking to deepen your reflection and understanding of the Creator through His creation.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of awe. As you utter the words, let your gaze or thoughts wander to the creation around you, connecting the beauty and order you see to the words you speak. Reflect on the meaning: recognizing that nothing in creation is without purpose, glorifying Allah for His perfection, and seeking His protection from the Fire. It's a personal conversation with your Lord, born from observation and humility.

Virtues & Benefits

This verse, which is a profound supplication, encourages us to see Allah's wisdom and purpose in every detail of His creation. By acknowledging that the universe is not mere chance but a deliberate creation (batilan means in vain, without purpose), we affirm our Tawhid (Oneness of Allah). It fosters gratitude and awe, moving us from passive observation to active contemplation. The request to be protected from the Fire stems directly from this recognition of Allah's might and our dependence on His mercy. It's a pathway to enhanced iman (faith) through contemplating Allah's signs (ayat).
