Knowledge & Learning
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This is a beautiful and comprehensive dua that can be recited after any of the obligatory prayers, or at any time during the day or night when you are seeking blessings and success in your endeavors. It's particularly relevant when you are about to start a new learning endeavor, or when you feel a need to strengthen your connection with Allah through understanding His attributes.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and concentration. Raise your hands in supplication if appropriate for the situation (e.g., after prayer). Believe that Allah will respond to your sincere plea. Understanding the meaning of the words will help you connect more deeply with your request.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses three crucial aspects of a Muslim's life: beneficial knowledge (which guides us to do good), good provision (which sustains us and allows us to worship Allah), and accepted deeds (which are the ultimate purpose of our existence). Seeking beneficial knowledge specifically helps us understand Allah's Greatness, His Names and Attributes, leading to deeper awe and worship of Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua to ensure that our efforts are aligned with what is pleasing to Allah.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds). When he would finish his supplication, he would say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not fear (Allah), from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a dua that is not heard.'
