Dua for Knowledge that Elevates and is Accepted by Allah

Knowledge & Learning
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3833

اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي، وَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْفَعُنِي، وَزِدْنِي عِلْمًا

O Allah, make useful for me what You have taught me, teach me that which will be useful for me, and increase me in knowledge.

Allahumma infa'ni bima 'allamtani, wa 'allimni ma yanfa'uni, wa zidni 'ilma

When to Read

This dua is perfect to recite at the beginning of any learning session – whether you're studying for exams, attending a lecture, reading an Islamic book, or even just engaging in a discussion to gain understanding. It's especially potent after Fard prayers, or at any time you feel the need for clarity and divine assistance in your pursuit of knowledge.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention, focusing on your desire for beneficial knowledge and its acceptance. Raise your hands as you would for supplication. Utter it clearly and with conviction, reflecting on each word and asking Allah to make the knowledge you gain a source of benefit in this life and the next, and a means to draw closer to Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, encapsulates the ultimate goal of seeking knowledge: its practical benefit and divine acceptance. It doesn't just ask for information, but for knowledge that positively impacts our actions, character, and relationship with Allah. By asking for 'knowledge that benefits us', we seek wisdom that guides us, understanding that brings us closer to our Creator, and insights that help us serve His creation better. The 'acceptance' implied is crucial – it means that our efforts in learning are recognized and rewarded by Allah, and that the knowledge itself becomes a light for us, rather than a burden or a means of arrogance.
