اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I may not need anyone but You.
Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka

This dua is profoundly useful when you feel stuck trying to understand complex texts, whether religious scriptures, academic works, or even everyday literature. Recite it before you begin studying, especially when seeking deeper insights or facing intellectual challenges. It's also fitting when you're seeking clarity on matters where a hidden wisdom might be present.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing your intention on seeking Allah's help for understanding. It's best recited with the conviction that true knowledge and insight come only from Him. You can recite it once or multiple times, perhaps raising your hands slightly in supplication. It's a beautiful practice to maintain this seeking of knowledge from its true Source, especially during moments of contemplation and study.
Virtues & Benefits
While this specific dua is often cited for seeking lawful provision, its underlying principle applies powerfully to seeking knowledge. By asking Allah to suffice us with what is lawful and enrich us with His grace, we are essentially asking Him to grant us the means, including the intellectual and spiritual tools, to understand His signs and His Book. The 'enrichment' (aghni) can be interpreted not just materially, but also intellectually and spiritually. Seeking refuge in Allah's sufficiency removes reliance on flawed human intellect alone and opens the heart and mind to divine inspiration and wisdom, which is key to unlocking hidden meanings.

Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): A creditor of mine came to me and demanded what was due to him. I had no money, so I pleaded with him. He refused and insisted. I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and informed him. He said: 'O Ali, recite: Allahumma ikfini bihalalika 'an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I may not need anyone but You).' Then he said: 'Say this once during the day, and if you die, you will die a martyr. And say it once at night, and if you die, you will die as a righteous soul.'
