Knowledge & Learning
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 732

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This profound supplication is perfect for when you're facing a particularly challenging academic problem. Whether it's a complex equation, a difficult concept to grasp, or writer's block on a critical assignment, turning to Allah in sincere supplication is a powerful step. Recite it before you begin studying, during moments of frustration, or even right before an exam. It's a request for guidance and clarity from the One who knows all.

How to Read

Begin with sincere intention, focusing on your need for Allah's help. Raise your hands slightly, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Utter the words with humility and conviction. After reciting, place your trust in Allah (Tawakkul) and then apply yourself diligently to the task at hand. Remember, dua is seeking help, but action is also essential. This dua is a beautiful expression of seeking knowledge that is not just academic, but also spiritually beneficial and practically applicable.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the essence of seeking true, beneficial knowledge. 'Ilman nafi'an' isn't just about accumulating facts; it's about knowledge that benefits you in this life and the next, leading to better understanding, wise decisions, and closeness to Allah. Paired with 'rizqan tayyiban' (pure provision) and 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (acceptable deeds), it highlights the holistic approach to life Islam encourages: seeking understanding and provision that is lawful and pure, and performing actions that are sincere and accepted by our Creator. When facing academic challenges, this connects your pursuit of knowledge to a higher purpose.
