اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

When to Read

This dua is excellent to recite after Fajr prayer, as it was the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ practice. It's also fitting whenever you feel a need to understand a ruling or a divine decree better, or simply to ask Allah for understanding in all aspects of your life.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with a present heart after your Fajr prayer. Raise your hands as you would for supplication, making sure to believe in Allah's ability to grant your request. Focus on the meaning of asking for knowledge that benefits, provision that is pure, and actions that are accepted by the Most Merciful.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua covers three vital areas for a Muslim's life: beneficial knowledge that guides us, pure provision that sustains us without leading to disobedience, and actions that are accepted by Allah, leading to His pleasure. Understanding the wisdom behind Allah's laws and decrees is a direct result of seeking beneficial knowledge. When our knowledge is beneficial, we are better equipped to accept and understand His divine wisdom, even when it eludes our immediate comprehension.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, and pure provision, and acceptable deeds.' (Sahih Muslim 7) The context here is a supplication made by the Prophet ﷺ at the beginning of his day after Fajr prayer, seeking all-encompassing good. Beneficial knowledge allows us to understand our deen, navigate life's complexities, and recognize the wisdom in Allah's commands and His qadar (decrees).
