اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This is a powerful supplication the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often make upon waking in the morning. Reciting it as you begin your day sets a beautiful intention to seek knowledge that benefits, sustenance that purifies, and actions that are accepted by Allah. It’s particularly fitting when you're about to engage in study, contemplation of creation, or any endeavor where clarity and understanding are sought.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart. It's best to raise your hands slightly, as is the general etiquette of dua. Focus on the meaning: asking Allah for knowledge that leads to good, provision that is lawful and pure, and deeds that are pleasing to Him. This encompasses understanding the natural world in a way that is beneficial and brings you closer to your Creator.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive request for well-being in this life and the hereafter. * **Beneficial Knowledge ('ilman naafi'an):** This isn't just about accumulating facts, but gaining knowledge that is useful, leads to righteous action, and increases one's awareness of Allah's wisdom in creation. * **Good Provision (rizqan tayyiban):** This asks for sustenance that is lawful (halal), pure, and brings contentment, not just wealth but also health, family, and peace. * **Accepted Deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan):** This is the ultimate goal – to perform actions that are done sincerely for Allah and are accepted by Him. This leads to true success. The Prophet ﷺ would say this upon starting his day, signifying the importance of these three elements for a blessed and purposeful life, including understanding Allah's signs in the universe.

‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whenever the Prophet ﷺ would greet the morning, he would say: ‘Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman naafi’an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amalan mutaqabbalan’ (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds). And when he would greet the evening, he would say the like of that. (Sahih Muslim 7:14. Also found in Sunan Ibn Majah 3841).
