Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'O Allah, teach him wisdom.' In another narration: 'O Allah, teach him the Book (i.e., the Quran).' It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that he said: ‘The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) put his hand on my shoulder and said: “O Allah, teach him the Book (Al-Kitab).” It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "O Allah, grant him understanding of the religion and teach him the interpretation (of the Quran)."
