اَللّٰهُمَّ آتِنِيْ حِكْمَةً وَّالْحِقْنِيْ بِالصَّالِحِيْنَ

O Allah, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous.

Allahumma atini hikmah walhiqni bis-salihin

When to Read

This dua is particularly beneficial when facing complex decisions, seeking knowledge, or when confronted with conflicting information. Recite it after your obligatory prayers, or at any time you feel the need for clarity and guidance in understanding the truth. It's also fitting to remember this plea during the early morning hours, a time often associated with seeking blessings and wisdom.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a focused heart. Raise your hands as you would in supplication. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking Allah (SWT) to bestow upon you true wisdom and to connect you with those who embody righteousness, whose company itself is a source of guidance. Reflect on the blessings of a sound mind that can distinguish between right and wrong.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking wisdom from Allah (SWT) is a direct path to understanding His signs and discerning truth. Wisdom (hikmah) goes beyond mere knowledge; it's the ability to apply knowledge correctly and make sound judgments. Being joined with the righteous means being in the company of those who have attained spiritual insight and moral uprightness, which in turn helps in staying firm on the truth. This dua aligns with the Quranic call for seeking knowledge and understanding: 'And say, My Lord, increase me in knowledge.' (Taha 20:114).

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to pray: 'Allahumma atini hikmah walhiqni bis-salihin' (O Allah, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous).
