رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah, wa fil-akhirati hasanah, wa qina 'adhaban-nar
When to Read
This powerful dua is for any time, but it's particularly potent when you feel your faith wavering or during the intense spiritual atmosphere of Hajj and Umrah. Imagine standing before the Ka'bah, or performing Tawaf, or sipping Zamzam water. In those moments, letting this plea rise from your heart is a profound way to anchor your faith and seek Allah's continuous blessings for both your worldly life and the Hereafter.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, raising your hands as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ often did. Visualize the goodness you are asking for – peace, success, knowledge, strong family ties, and ultimately, salvation from the Hellfire. Let the plea come from a place of deep reliance on Allah (SWT), acknowledging that all good things originate from Him.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua, known as the most frequent supplication of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, encompasses a comprehensive request for well-being in both realms. The Quran itself praises those who recite it: "And among them is one who says, 'Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.' Those will have [portion] from what they earned, and Allah is swift in account [31:204-205]." By asking for 'hasanah' (goodness) in this life and the next, we are asking for Allah's grace, guidance, ease, success, and acceptance in all aspects, while simultaneously seeking protection from His punishment. During Hajj and Umrah, this dua helps us connect the physical acts of worship with the ultimate purpose: seeking Allah's pleasure and protection.
