Dua for Witnessing and Benefiting from the Lessons of Hajj & Umrah's Journey

Hajj & Umrah
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 1534

O Allah, make it (this Hajj/Umrah) a blessed pilgrimage, a sought-after effort, a forgiven sin, an accepted deed, and a trade that will never perish.

Allahumma ij'alhu hajjan mabrooran, wa sa'yan mashkooran, wa dhanban maghfooran, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan, wa tijaratan lan taboor.

When to Read

This dua is specifically for the pilgrim to recite upon completing their Hajj or Umrah, or to be made by others for the pilgrim. It serves as a comprehensive prayer to ask Allah to accept the journey, forgive sins committed, and grant lasting benefit from the spiritual investment. It's a moment to reflect on the profound spiritual undertaking and seek Allah's ultimate acceptance and reward.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart after concluding the rites of Hajj or Umrah. Focus on each part of the dua, visualizing its meaning: the acceptance of the pilgrimage, the reward for the striving, the washing away of sins, the approval of deeds, and the everlasting spiritual profit. It's a time for deep gratitude and humble supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the essence of seeking acceptance for a monumental act of worship. By asking for a 'mabroor' (accepted and blessed) Hajj, a 'mashkoor' (rewarded) effort, a 'maghfoor' (forgiven) sin, and a 'mutaqabbal' (accepted) deed, the pilgrim seeks the highest spiritual return. The final phrase, 'tijaratan lan taboor' (a trade that will never perish), highlights the eternal, incorruptible reward that comes from dedicating oneself to Allah's command, a stark contrast to worldly, perishable gains.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever performs Hajj for the sake of Allah and does not have sexual relations or commit sins, he will return (free of sin) as if he were born again.' (Then he recited a verse): '...And what you do of good deeds, Allah knows it. And take a provision for the journey, but indeed, the best provision is taqwa (piety). So fear Me, O you of understanding.' (Al-Baqarah 2:197). And Abu Hurairah said that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say when he finished Hajj: 'O Allah, make it a blessed pilgrimage, a sought-after effort, a forgiven sin, an accepted deed, and a trade that will never perish.'
