Hajj & Umrah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1347

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, accept the Hajj/Umrah of [name of person acting as proxy], and place it on the scale of their good deeds, and reward them for what they have done.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim, Allahumma taqabbal min [name of person acting as proxy] hajjahu / umratahu waj'alhu fi mizani hasanatihi, wa ajirhu 'ala ma fa'al.

When to Read

This dua is specifically for someone who has performed Hajj or Umrah on behalf of another, such as a deceased parent or relative, or someone who is unable to perform it themselves. It should be recited after completing the pilgrimage, as an acknowledgment and supplication for the person for whom the pilgrimage was performed.

How to Read

It is recommended to recite this dua with sincerity and a pure intention. After completing the rites of Hajj or Umrah, while still in a state of spiritual reflection, mention the name of the person on whose behalf the pilgrimage was performed and make this supplication. It can be recited individually or with others who may be sharing the spiritual experience.

Virtues & Benefits

Performing Hajj or Umrah on behalf of another is a highly commendable act of worship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated that the reward for such an act benefits both the performer and the person on whose behalf it is done. When we make dua for them, we are essentially reinforcing the connection and seeking Allah's continued acceptance and reward for their intention and our effort. This dua aims to ensure that the efforts are accepted by Allah and that the person for whom it was done receives the full spiritual benefit and reward.

Source & Authentication

The hadith context relates to asking about good deeds performed for others. While there isn't a specific, direct prophetic utterance for *this exact* dua phrase, the principle is established. The broader understanding from Islamic jurisprudence, based on numerous hadith about the permissibility and virtue of proxy Hajj and Umrah (e.g., Sahih al-Bukhari 1817, Sahih Muslim 1147), supports making such a supplication. The intention behind this dua is to ask Allah to accept the proxy act and grant reward to both the performer and the beneficiary, aligning with the spirit of mutual support and supplication within the Ummah.
