Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): The Prophet (peace be upon him) heard a man say: 'Labbayka 'an Shubrumah.' He said: 'Who is Shubrumah?' He said: 'My brother or my cousin.' He said: 'Have you performed Hajj on behalf of anyone before?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Perform Hajj on behalf of yourself, then perform Hajj on behalf of Shubrumah.' In another narration, when a man said to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): 'I performed Umrah on behalf of Banu Jazzan,' Ibn Abbas said: 'May Allah accept it from you and from them.' In the narration of Abu Dawud, it is related from Ibn 'Abbas that he said: 'If you perform Hajj or Umrah on behalf of anyone, say: "O Allah, accept it from him and from me."' However, the wording that is appropriate is that which is mentioned in the narration of Muslim: 'Make it for him and for his family.'
