Dua for Sustaining the Spiritual Lessons Learned at the Prophet's Mosque

Hajj & Umrah
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3107

O Allah, do not make this my last encounter with Your Sacred House; rather, allow me to return to it. Grant me its visitation year after year, and time after time, with conquests that are not humiliating, and the ability to travel without destitution. Do not strip me of Your abundant provisions, nor change my state from Your favors. Suffice me with Your lawful provision against Your unlawful, and enrich me with Your bounty over others. Make this return to it near and swift. Glory be to You! Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers. Indeed, by the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest. And peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and all his companions. Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Allahumma la taj'al akhir 'ahdi bi-baytika al-haram, wa lakin 'udti bihi, warzuqni ziyaratahu a'waman ba'da a'wamin, wa zamanan ba'da zamanin, wa bi-futuḥin ghayri mu'jizin, was-tita'atin ghayri diya'in, wa la takhla'ni min subughi rizqika, wa la tubaddil hali min ni'matik, wakfini bi-halalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bi-fadlika 'amman siwak, waj'al dhalika al-'awda ilayya qariban sari'an, subḥanaka inni kuntu minadh-dhalimin, ala bi-dhikrillah tatma'innul-qulub, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah, wa alihi wa ṣaḥbihi ajma'in, Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati ḥasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar.

When to Read

This dua is particularly poignant when departing from Makkah after Hajj or Umrah, or whenever one feels the spiritual connection to the Prophet's Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi) in Madinah and the Ka'bah. It's a prayer for continued connection and the ability to return, preserving the spiritual high achieved during the pilgrimage.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and a heartfelt yearning to maintain the spiritual state experienced in Madinah and Makkah. Focus on the meanings of the words, reflecting on Allah's blessings and the desire for His pleasure. It's recommended to raise your hands in supplication and face the Qiblah, as you would when making other personal duas.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound desire: to not let the spiritual peak reached in the blessed lands be a transient moment. It seeks Allah's grace for recurring visits, for sustenance that keeps one away from unlawful means, and for contentment with what Allah has provided. It also reaffirms the core Islamic belief that peace comes through the remembrance of Allah and invokes blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his family.

Source & Authentication

Al-Hasan Al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) departed from Madinah to go to Makkah, he said: O Allah, do not make this my last encounter with Your Sacred House, but rather allow me to return to it. And he would say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'A person will not be separated from the Sacred House, but that Allah will cause him to return to it, and the people will be tested.' Abu Hurayrah said: So I asked Allah for a good return, and I sought refuge in Him from being deprived of it. And he said: O Allah, grant me ease in sustenance and prevent me from seeking unlawful things, and let me be content with what You have granted me. And I seek refuge in You from losing Your blessings and changing Your well-being. And I said: O Allah, if You decree for me a return, then let it be soon and swift. And he said: And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Indeed, from the signs of the Hour is that the people will walk on the road and will not find anyone to accompany them; and the people will be tested.' He said: And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'There will come a time when a man will say: "Come, let us go to the Ka'bah and perform Tawaf." And it will be said to him: "It has been destroyed."'
