Dua for Sustaining Ihram's State of Purity After Umrah

Hajj & Umrah
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 2920

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا حَجَّةً مَبْرُورَةً وَسَعْيًا مَشْكُورًا وَذَنْبًا مَغْفُورًا

O Allah, make it (this Umrah) a Hajj Mabroor (accepted pilgrimage), a Sa'y Mashkoor (appreciated effort), and a Dhanb Maghfoor (forgiven sin).

Allahumma'jalha hajjan mabrooratan wa sa'yan mashkooran wa dhanban maghfooran

When to Read

This dua is particularly poignant after completing your Umrah, especially as you transition out of the state of Ihram. You can recite it as you offer your final prayers, perform Tawaf al-Wada' (if performing Hajj later), or even as you prepare to leave Makkah. It's a beautiful way to encapsulate your spiritual journey and ask Allah to accept your deeds and carry the purity of Ihram into your life beyond the pilgrimage.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and humility. Raise your hands as you would in any supplication. Focus on the meaning of each part: asking for acceptance of your Umrah, for your efforts to be recognized, and for your sins to be pardoned. Reflect on how this request helps maintain the spiritual state achieved during Ihram, extending its blessings into your everyday life.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah to accept the acts of worship performed during Umrah, making it a 'Hajj Mabroor.' It seeks appreciation for the physical and spiritual exertion involved ('Sa'y Mashkoor'), and crucially, it requests forgiveness for sins ('Dhanb Maghfoor'). By asking for these things, one hopes to emerge from Umrah in a state of renewed purity, with a clean slate and the acceptance of Allah, which is the ultimate goal. This sets the stage for continuing a life guided by the spiritual discipline and heightened consciousness experienced during Ihram.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abdullah bin Masud that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'There is no Muslim who performs Hajj or Umrah and says: Allahumma'jalha hajjan mabrooratan wa sa'yan mashkooran wa dhanban maghfooran (O Allah, make it a Hajj Mabroor, a Sa'y Mashkoor, and a Dhanb Maghfoor), except that it will be said to him: You have returned having been forgiven and whatever you do after this is for yourself.'
