Dua for Seeking the Best of Provisions for the Hereafter During Hajj & Umrah

Hajj & Umrah
Hasan HadithSunan An-Nasa'i 1072

O Allah, I ask You for the life of the happy, and the stations of the martyrs, and the companionship of the Prophets, and victory over enemies. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'aysh-as-su'adaa', wa manazil-ash-shuhadaa', wa murafaqat-al-anbiyaa', wan-nasra 'alal-a'daa', innaka samiy-'ud-du'aa'.

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly fitting during Hajj and Umrah, a time when we are intensely focused on our hereafter. Recite it while performing Tawaf, between the Rukn al-Yamani and the Black Stone (as this is a place for dua), while climbing Safa or Marwah, or during any moment of reflection and supplication in the sacred precincts. It’s a comprehensive request that encompasses spiritual success, a noble end, and divine support.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. Raise your hands in supplication as you would for other duas. Understand the profound meaning of each request: seeking a contented life in this world and the next, the high status of martyrs, the blessed company of prophets, and strength against all that opposes your well-being in both realms. Believe that Allah hears your plea.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates seeking the ultimate success for our eternal life. It asks for: 1. **'Aysh-as-su'adaa' (The life of the happy):** This refers to a life filled with contentment, ease, and closeness to Allah, both in this world and the hereafter. 2. **Manazil-ash-shuhadaa' (The stations of the martyrs):** Seeking the immense reward and high status granted to martyrs, even if one doesn't physically attain martyrdom. 3. **Muraqafat-al-anbiyaa' (The companionship of the Prophets):** A desire for the highest level of closeness to Allah, achieved through emulating the Prophets (peace be upon them). 4. **An-nasra 'alal-a'daa' (Victory over enemies):** Seeking Allah's help against inner desires, Shaytan, and external forces that may hinder our spiritual progress. This prayer is attributed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asking for these noble aims, demonstrating their importance.

Source & Authentication

A man asked the Prophet (ﷺ): 'What is the best supplication?' He said: 'Supplicating on the Day of Arafat, and the best of what I and the Prophets before me said is: La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir (There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs the praise, and He is Able to do all things). And the best of what we supplicate with on this day in Makkah is: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عَيْشَ السُّعَدَاءِ، وَمَنَازِلَ الشُّهَدَاءِ، وَمُرَافَقَةَ الأَنْبِيَاءِ، وَالنَّصْرَ عَلَى الأَعْدَاءِ، إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ. (Allahumma inni as'aluka 'aysh-as-su'adaa', wa manazil-ash-shuhadaa', wa murafaqat-al-anbiyaa', wan-nasra 'alal-a'daa', innaka samiy-'ud-du'aa').
