بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
In the name of Allah, I rely upon Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.
Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.
When to Read
This powerful dua is perfect to recite as you step out of your accommodation or enter the bustling crowds of Makkah, especially when heading towards the Haram for Tawaf or Sa'i. It’s particularly relevant when you feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of people and seek Allah's protection.
How to Read
Recite this sincerely, with your heart connected to Allah. As you utter it, visualize Allah's protection enveloping you. Take a moment to truly reflect on the meaning: acknowledging Allah's name, placing your trust in Him alone, and recognizing that all strength and ability comes solely from Him. This isn't just words; it's a declaration of your dependence on your Creator.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a profound statement of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). When a person says this, it is said to them: 'You are guided, defended, and your needs are met.' This means that by uttering these words with sincerity, Allah takes responsibility for your affairs, guiding you towards what is best, protecting you from harm, and providing for your needs. In the context of Hajj and Umrah, where navigating massive crowds can be challenging and potentially lead to accidents or getting lost, this dua is a vital shield, invoking Allah's direct guardianship.

Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'When a person goes out of his house and says: Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. (In the name of Allah, I rely upon Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.) then it is said to him: 'Sufi-ta' (You are defended), 'Wa kufi-ta' (and you are defended), and 'Wa wudi-'ta' (and you are made to be on guard, i.e., you are protected). So, the devil leaves him.' And another version has: 'Wa humi-ta' (and you are protected).
